Work+Life at Ada County Paramedics

Our Paramedics and EMTs work 48 hours per week in 24- and 12-hour shifts. Shift days are consistent from week to week. For example, Employee A works a 24-12-12, on Wednesday (0730 to 0730 hours), Thursday, and Friday (both noon to midnight). Employee B works a 24-24, Sunday and Tuesday (both shifts 0730 to 0730 hrs). Crews prefer this scheduling method because it helps them manage their lives easier than other shift variations. Shift picks are every four months and are based on seniority—the reward for longevity is a bigger variety of shifts from which to choose.

Our field crews are stationed in complete living quarters with kitchens and other comforts of home—some are co-located in fire stations and some are not.

On days off, Idahoans have a wealth of recreational opportunities available in and around the Treasure Valley. Mountain biking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, golf, skiing, and hunting are just a select few on a long list.
